International Health Program Romania – Medicine offered by “Vasile Goldis” Western University of Arad and Colaborare Ltd provides you with the opportunity to travel to Romania (European Union) and participate in training and clinical education.

Being part of our programs, you will benefit from getting education and clinical experience in medical institutions where practices may differ from your home country. As part of our programs you expand your medical education with a heightened awareness of key issues related to urban and global health and will have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the community you serve. You will have the possibility to meet and interact with local medical students as well as with experienced doctors, nurses and physicians, leading to a dynamic exchange of knowledge and experiences.

The program will run in English. 

At the end of the program the participation certificate will be awarded by the “Vasile Goldis” West University of Arad.

The program is also accredited by the Association of Romanian Physicians (Colegiul Medicilor din Romania) and The Order of General Practitioners, Midwives and Nurses in Romania (Ordinul Asistenţilor Medicali Generalişti,Moaşelor şi Asistenţilor Medicali din România) with CME (Continuing Medical Education) credits.

The length of the program can be 1 week or 2 weeks:

  • One-week program

Three days of theoretical activity of 6 hours/day and 2 days of compulsory demonstrative clinical experience. The compulsory clinical experience is structured as follows: 1 day in a surgical department and 1 day in a medical oncology department.

The program in the hospital will take place at the County Emergency Clinical Hospital Arad. The County Emergency Clinical Hospital Arad is a pavilion clinical hospital with several locations, including 48 departments and sections for acute patients, with 1,167 beds, and 8 departments and sections for chronic patients with 201 beds.

The program may include:

  • History taking, physical examination of patients and medical checkup assistance and/or observation.
  • Ward rounds/ visits;
  • Routine drug use and fluids in patient management;
  • Various medical management of patience;
  • Dietary differences in medical practices;
  • Cultural ethics to medicine;
  • Basic comparative medical practices;
  • Data collection and analyses of various treatment of patients;

The level of activities will be based on doctor’s specialty, level of education (doctors, residency doctors, students, nurses, nurses’ students; year of study, if the students begun or not the clinical studies) as well as the hospital policy, Romanian and EU law.

Required equipment: Stethoscope, formal clothing, white lab coat and hospital shoes.

  • Two-weeks program

In the first week, 3 days of theoretical activity of 6 hours/day and 2 days of compulsory demonstrative clinical experience, and in the second week, 5 days of clinical experience, at choice. The compulsory clinical experience from the first week is structured as follows: 1 day in a surgical department and 1 day in a medical oncology department.

The second week of clinical experience will take place, at choice, in one of the following departments:

  • surgical department, medical department;
  • imaging – paraclinical investigations;
  • anatomy-pathology;
  • palliative care.

Week 1 (Monday-Friday)

Three days will be dedicated especially to the theoretical part, which will focus on the study of the way in which cancer cells appear and develop in the organism, their action mechanisms, establishing positive diagnosis, adjuvant treatment, surgical approach, psychological counselling and social and profession integration, as well as complementary therapy, adapting the patient’s life style and proper nursing. This information will be presented in 8 modules of 2 hours each. Also, a 2-hour course of labor protection, ethics and patient rights will be held.

The compulsory demonstrative clinical experience of 2 days is structured as follows: 1 day in a surgical department and 1 day in a medical oncology department. Please be reminded that even the program will run in English the language primarily used in hospital wards is Romanian.

Week 2 (Monday-Friday) – only for 2 weeks program

The second week will take place, at choice, in one of the following departments:

  • surgical department, medical department;
  • imaging – paraclinical investigations;
  • anatomy-pathology;
  • palliative care.

Please be reminded that even the program will run in English the language primarily used in hospital wards is Romanian.

For groups of 10 and more participants, up on request:

  • The program start dates can adapt to group needs.
  • The course can be adapted to the demands of the students and of the staff interested in multidisciplinary approach, both from the point of view of diagnosis and of nursing of the oncologic patient.
  • The subjects, course and clinical experience can be adept to the needs of the group (ex: psychiatry, cardiology, neurology, internal medicine, etc.)
